In a recent email Zeratha wrote:

Do you become excited by the complex diversity of the natural world, of plants, of animals? Do you find yourself interested in the connection between natural and social systems? Do you want to become more involved in the non-profit world or with an environmentally focused organization?           
                                                                                
If you answered yes to any of the questions above there may be a place for you on the board or in the volunteer section of Spreading Roots, Spring Forth (or SRSF). We are a small non-profit whose mission is to strengthen the connections between people and their environment. We have been publishing an email based weekly event listing for over five years now titled "The Dirt!", (*see more below*). However, SRSF, the parent organization of The Dirt! is new and is in need of board members to expand it's potential. Come join us and gain valuable experience as a board member or volunteer and learn from others interested in common interests while working for sustainability in the Portland metro. area.

**Zeratha Young** who overnight greatly upped the food for thought, and overall educational content to be currently found on our site as well including the addition of more of her beautiful poetry to wind and weave words into beauty.

Dear Readers of The Dirt!

HAPPY EARTH DAY FROM THE DIRT!

Editor's Note: Earth Day approaches once again. Along with joyous celebration, it also triggers meditative reflection to move towards more positive action. It is a time of taking stock and noticing more closely what is and has been my relationship to the earth and to others for the past year. Also I ask the question, what more can I do? We live in a time where the reality of global warming has begun to make its force felt and "peak oil" is right around the corner. Now, more than ever, we must ask these questions and act accordingly. To this regard, I find it heartening how many amazing and creative people are coming up with viable solutions to help us all live more sustainably. In this age of the internet and hyper-information, communication practices have been able to trigger fast positive action that have been instrumental in preserving laws and regulations that protect our environment. At the local Portland level, we have been pleased with the new participation we have seen via The Dirt! Of course there is always more to do. In the upcoming months we look forward to some changes that will increase our effectiveness and outreach breadth. Please consider making a donation or volunteering to help us continue this crucial work. LBN
