A SPECIAL MESSAGE
FROM SPREADING ROOTS, SPRING FORTH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mission: To strengthen the connections between people and the environment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DEAR READERS,

Many large big Thank Yous go out to all the readers who have donated so far. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you have not yet made a donation, please consider making a donation today. Every little bit counts.

I was recently reminded of an environmental history class I took in college. We were debating urban sprawl when a friend of mine decided he'd heard about as much in the name of development as he could take. He was a quiet man who rarely shared his opinions, but that day left all of us a little in awe of him. He spoke about how we were no longer in tune with the earth, how too many of us never took the time to sit and take in nature. He said he could put his hands into the dirt and feel a pulse of life within it. We needed to listen to that pulse and realize how deeply tied to we are to it and do everything that we can to protect it. At the end of his impromptu speech we stood up and applauded him for sharing his powerful connection with the Earth.

Our mission at Spreading Roots, Spring Forth is to strengthen the connections between people and the environment. Currently we carry this out by publishing The Dirt!, highlighting environmental events in the greater Portland area. So whether your passion is protecting open space, stopping the spread of ivy, or protecting salmon habitat, you can dig into The Dirt! and find the event for you.

Right now you have the opportunity to make your voice heard and to help us to continue to support your passion by contributing financially to keep The Dirt! alive. We want to be able to continue to provide our services to the community and help make a difference in the Portland environment. In celebration of our recently obtained 501c3 status, we thought it would be neat to accept donations in the forms of: $5013, $501, multiples of $3, or any Combination of $$ that could be 'C'een. :)

Please help to maintain the pulse of life within The Dirt and support your passions. Donations should be payable to "Spreading Roots, Spring Forth" and mailed to PO Box 14061 Portland, OR 97293. All donations will be tax deductible once the 501(c)(3) status is approved and will be back dated to our initial application date in 2004. We need to track how much money is being donated so please email your name, address, how much you are donating and your thoughts to FUNd@spreadingroots.org. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!
