The first planting of the Friends of Trees 2006-07 planting season is at Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge on Sat., Oct., 14, and the first neighborhood planting in Portland is in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood on Nov. 11. Friends of Trees will host its first Fun Run for Restoration, a 5-mile run and 3.5-mile walk, on Sunday, Oct. 8th, beginning at Oaks Amusement Park, 7100 Oaks Park Way. Registration is at 8:30am., the run starts at 9am. The Fun Run for Restoration is sponsored by the Nike Factory Store.

Friends of Trees' Natural Area Restoration program restores and enhances degraded urban natural areas to preserve biodiversity, improve water and air quality, protect native species, and enhance wildlife habitat. You will learn about proper tree planting techniques, the urban forest, and volunteer management. Crew leaders form the core group of volunteers who ensure the sucess of each planting. Crew leaders are asked to lead other volunteers during four weekend events during the planting season, between Nov. 2005 and April 2006.
Please join us as we remove invasive non-native plants and free up the native wildflowers. Work with friendly neighbors as we restore this little forest in southwest Portland.
