Permaculture is, at its heart, a design system. It is unique as a design system in that it includes a set of ethics; namely, care for the earth, care for people, and share your surplus (or "fair share"). By applying the principles of permaculture design, as guided by the ethics, you can discover ways to increase the sustainability of any system. Join us Monday 3/17/08 for a return to our "roots" - a review and discussion of the basics of permaculture as set out in David Holmgren's book Permaculture - Principles & Pathways Beyond Sustainability. We will review and discuss the 3 ethics and 12 principles, relating them to real-life design issues. This is the perfect time to share clever design solutions you have discovered as well as pick up new ideas and inspiration. Those newer to permaculture will get some great basic information, and experienced permies are encouraged to attend and share and learn too. Event information is found at the very bottom of the page. Plant Trees and help restore the Rinearson Creek watershed in Gladstone at SOLV’s Team Up For Watershed Health sites on Saturday March 22. Plantings start at 9 am and end by 12 pm. Rinearson Creek is spring-fed urban stream connected to the Willamette River. The riparian habitat is highly degraded because of invasive plants, erosion, development and stormwater as well as trash dumping. The creek is shaded by Douglas Fir and Western red cedar, so it has great potential for becoming a valuable wildlife habitat area and a clean source of cool water for the Willamette. Project partners include the Friends of Rinearson Creek, Willamette Riverkeeper, the Ivy Warriors, the Department of Environmental Quality, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District, and Gladstone High School. outdoor Sunday March 23, 2008
