Oregon Tilth’s Organic Education Center is currently recruiting ”Farm Naturalists“ for our Field School program at JEAN’s Urban Forest Farm in SE Portland. These volunteers will help facilitate and lead multi-sensory field trips on Tuesdays and Thursdays from mid April to early June. Michael Armstrong from the City of Portland Office of Sustainable Development will review Portland's past and current efforts to reduce fossil-fuel use and carbon emissions and describe upcoming initiatives. In 1993, Portland became the first city in the U.S. to adopt a climate-protection plan. In the years since, Portland has implemented significant policies and programs and seen promising results, with local carbon emissions now at 1990 levels. Jessica Antoine 360-619-1108 NeighborWoods Stewards receive free education from local arboriculture experts on such topics as tree identification, tree biology, proper tree care, Vancouver tree regulations, tree planting, natural area restoration, nursery tree production and the benefits of trees. After the training, the NeighborWoods Stewards will be equipped to take on the task of spreading accurate information about trees to their own neighborhoods. NeighborWoods Stewards volunteer to conduct a tree planting or tree-related education project in exchange for the training and education they receive.
