Distributed power is fast becoming a logical and affordable option for municipalities looking to expand their electricity-production capacity.  Rather than investing in large, ineffeicient powerplants and the infrastructure needed to bring the power they generate to homes, why not help people produce their own power at their homes.  A small investment in solar and wind producing technologies could pay big dividends to power-strapped electrical grids.
