TAX THE LAND NOT "IMPROVEMENTS" ON THE LAND 5-26-05Submitted by Laura on Fri, 05/27/2005 - 04:19.
Our bill to let cities and counties shift their property tax off buildings, onto locations, SJR 1, Site-Value Taxation, is stuck in Senate Revenue. Every city that has taxed land, not improvements, has erected more affordable housing, attracted private investment, generated jobs, and reversed sprawl. Portland could use a little of such powerful medicine. Could you call the chair, Ryan Deckert, 503/986-1714, and ask him to send it to the floor for a Senate vote? Almost all the members of his committee already support the bill. Then we'll do our darndest to get the senators to send it to the House then to the ballot. But as long as it's stalled,
it can't be discussed. Many thanks.
Please take that one minute right now. Call Ryan Deckert 503-986-1714 SMITH, Jeffery J., President, Forum on Geonomics 3604 SE Morrison St, Portland Oregon 97212 USA 503/234-0809; jjs@geonomics.org; www.geonomics.org Share Earth's worth to prosper and conserve. ( categories: )
