HAPPY EARTH DAY FROM THE DIRT!

Editor's Note: Earth Day approaches once again. Along with joyous celebration, it also triggers meditative reflection to move towards more positive action. It is a time of taking stock and noticing more closely what is and has been my relationship to the earth and to others for the past year. Also I ask the question, what more can I do? We live in a time where the reality of global warming has begun to make its force felt and "peak oil" is right around the corner. Now, more than ever, we must ask these questions and act accordingly. To this regard, I find it heartening how many amazing and creative people are coming up with viable solutions to help us all live more sustainably. In this age of the internet and hyper-information, communication practices have been able to trigger fast positive action that have been instrumental in preserving laws and regulations that protect our environment. At the local Portland level, we have been pleased with the new participation we have seen via The Dirt! Of course there is always more to do. In the upcoming months we look forward to some changes that will increase our effectiveness and outreach breadth.
