Friends of Trees is expanding its core group of key volunteers by offering leadership trainings on Nov. 4 and 11. Local experts and Friends of Trees staff will educate volunteers about city trees, local ecosystems, proper tree planting techniques, plant accessorizing, and volunteer leadership. Trained crew leaders will guide other volunteers during weekend tree-plantings and restoration events between Nov. 2006 and March 2007.

Crew leaders ensure the success of each Friends of Trees planting, and are asked to lead other volunteers during four weekend events during the planting season.

The Neighborhood Trees program brings together neighbors, community groups and businesses to expand the urban forest and foster environmental stewardship through street and yard tree plantings. The Natural Area Restoration program restores and enhances degraded urban natural areas to preserve biodiversity, improve water and air quality, protect native species, and enhance wildlife habitat.

Friends of Trees inspires community stewardship by bringing people in the Portland-Vancouver area together to plant and care for city trees and urban natural areas. To learn more about the trainings or upcoming plantings, visit www.friendsoftrees.org.
