Saturday, November 4^th, Paddle Ross Island, Noon to 3 pm.  Join Mike Houck on a leisurely afternoon paddle around the Ross Island complex.   Soon, to be one of Portland’s newest natural area parks, once Ross Island Sand and Gravel transfers the islands to the city parks bureau, the islands when combined with the quiet backwaters of Holgate Channel and the adjacent 160-acre Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge will become one west coast’s most spectacular urban wildlife refuges.  You are responsible for bringing and maintaining your own kayak/canoe.  Canoe and kayak rentals can be arranged through Alder Creek Kayak & Canoe (www.aldercreek.com, 503-285-0464) or Portland Kayak Company (www.portlandrivercompany.com, 503-459-4050).  Life jackets are absolutely required.  Free.
