American Hiking Society Volunteer Vacation in Douglas County, Oregon
Crew will make improvements along the 1.2-mile long Susan Creek Falls and Wolf Creek Falls trails. Work will include the clearing of trees and brush, rehabilitation of user-created trails, fence repair and the replacement of old railroad ties with new ones. If you are tired of a cold, snowy winter come to the mild climate of Southern Oregon and experience working in an Oregon rain forest. The area where we will be working is heavily forested trails at approximately 1000' elevation. These beautiful trails meander through 150' tall Douglas-Fir, fragrant Western Red-Cedars, dripping, moss-covered rocks and peaceful Susan and Wolf Creeks culminating at gorgeous 50' and 75' waterfalls respectively. Volunteers will be camping at Susan Creek campground nestled among old-growth firs along the bank of the Wild and Scenic North Umpqua River. If you like to play after the work day is over, try hiking or biking along the 79-mile long North Umpqua Trail, kayaking on Class III and IV rapids, or fishing for salmon and steelhead on the North Umpqua River. Improved tent site is provided. Volunteers must provide their own tent. Food is not provided. Airport pickup provided at the Eugene Airport. Call Erik Taylor at 541-464-3271 for more info on this event hosted with the American Hiking Society.
