Northwest Service Academy is now accepting applications for the Professional Placement (P2) program. Applications are due March 14, 2008. Interested organizations can receive the application materials by contacting Margi Guilfoyle at Margi@P2Professional.org.

P2 recruits highly qualified men and women to serve on compelling, environmentally focused projects. These 11 month AmeriCorps positions offer participating organizations access to individuals with highly valued and specialized skill sets, such as GIS, planning and statistical analysis, grant writing, and other organizational capacity-building skills. Northwest Service Academy services the stipend, workers compensation, medical insurance, educational award and training fund for each individual in the program. Participating organizations provide a $17,000 cash match towards the $35,000 required to place, train and support each participant.

Michael VanDerwater of Solar Oregon, P2’s first sponsor, says: "Our earned income has doubled in the past six months primarily due to the added resources the P2 program has helped us with….We needed the skills and expertise of an experienced professional to get us to the next level but did not have the budget or infrastructure to support this. The newly created P2 professional program….was a perfect match for us and the program director that we brought on has provided incredible value to the organization. His work has allowed us to develop professional programs, attract funders and grow our organization as he grows with it.”

Northwest Service Academy (NWSA) is an environmental service and leadership development organization that partners with more than 130 community-based organizations, government agencies and schools to address significant environmental issues in communities across Oregon and Washington. A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, NWSA is funded through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service administered by Educational Service District 112, project cash-match and in-kind contributions, and other grants, workshops, and services. NWSA has two centers: the Lower Columbia Center, located in Portland, OR, and the Mt. Adams Center in Trout Lake, WA.
