The Portland Permaculture Guild's July 21 meeting will be at the new shared headquarters of the City Repair Project and the American Center for Sustainability (ACS) at 3125 E. Burnside, across the street from Music Millennium.

Some facts about the location:   On the double lot, there is the ACS greenhouse (which has already served as a distribution point for thousands of plants), City Repair cob teahouse, small pond, firepit, mature cherry and fig trees and other fruit trees, and a  grapevine.  The large house has a tenant living in the basement apartment, and offices on the two main floors. Whole Foods drops off food that is past its use-by date (fruits & vegetables, bread, cheese) on the front porch every Sunday afternoon, and people are welcome to come and get free food.  Every Monday night, people from City Repair and neighbors get together for tea in the teahouse, a VBC project.   Some of the problems include poison hemlock, Himalayan blackberries, ground compaction, and debris in the garden beds.

Ken Burrow, founder and president of ACS, says, "We intend to create a restorative urban land use design from a holistic viewpoint.  In any urban landscape, there is restoration that can be done.  We intend to create a plan to allow for humans to use this land to meet our own needs and desires in a way that will benefit the land in the long term.  We would like to bring in more knowledge, more eyes to observe the environment, and increase the learning potential for all of those who wish to be involved.  We would very much value input from PPG members."

Please come for potluck at 6:00 (bring food to share and your own plate, cup and utensils), and a tour and brainstorming session beginning at 7:00 pm.  See you there!
