Rocket stoves are wood-burning stoves made from tin cans that burn fuel so efficiently that very little is needed to cook a meal. We will be making an Aprovecho "Fish Camp" rocket stove, which can be used as a backpacking stove. This is a hands-on workshop, so anyone who wants to make one can bring materials and do it. The materials list is below. Even if you don't choose to build a stove, you are welcome to attend!

MATERIALS

  • 1 #10 can (coffee can sized, but must have a metal lid, not foil like an actual coffee can) INCLUDING LID!
  • 4 soup cans or 15-oz fruit cans, all the same size approx 4 feet of aluminum foil Tin snips (aviation snips work well) You will be using this a lot so it may be difficult to share one.
  • Gloves (if you want to give your hands a little protection from the sharp cut edges of the cans)

TOOLS (can be shared by more than 1 person)

  • Pliers
  • flexible measuring device (i.e. tape measure)
  • permanent marking pen
  • can opener
  • awl (to punch holes in cans)
  • small hammer
  • wood block (to hammer on)
