 Portland Fruit Tree Project
provides a community-based
solution to a critical and growing
need in Portland and beyond –
access to healthy food.

By empowering neighbors to share
in the harvest and care of urban fruit
trees, we are preventing waste,
building community knowledge and
resources, and creating sustainable,
cost-free ways to obtain healthy,
locally-grown food.

Because money doesn’t grow
on trees… but fruit does!

We bring people together to gather
fruit before it falls, and make it
available to those who need it most.
We register fruit and nut trees
throughout the city, bring people
together to harvest and distribute
thousands of pounds of fresh fruit
each year, and teach tree care
and food preservation in hands-on workshops.

The Portland Fruit Tree Project
is made possible with grants
from Meyer Memorial Trust
and City of Portland's Office
of Neighborhood Involvement

And generous contributions
from people like you!

Thank you!

Dear friends,

As trees around the city begin to burst with ripening fruit, the Portland Fruit Tree Project is busy preparing for our most bountiful season yet!

This is a very exciting time for our blossoming organization. We plan to double the number of harvesting events this year! With your help, we aim to harvest 10,000 pounds of fresh fruit that would otherwise go to waste, and make it available to those who need it most. There are many ways for you to get involved -- see below for details! We also plan to double the number of food preservation workshops this year. Plus we recently moved into a wonderful new site in NE Portland, where we are starting a new community orchard and demonstration garden!

In these tough economic times, the work of the Portland Fruit Tree Project is needed more than ever! Please consider a gift to support our important work. Your support is much-needed, and any amount is greatly appreciated!

In this update:

We've moved!

The Portland Fruit Tree Project is pleased to announce that we have moved to fabulous new site at 1912 NE Killingsworth Street.

Our humble new headquarters will is already making a huge difference for the PFTP as we continue increasing our program and organizational capacity! It includes a meeting room, on-site tool storage, kitchen (for workshops), and a big garden! Plus enough space to accomodate a new intern and future Americorps staff.

We are happy to be sharing the site with 3 wonderful community organizations: NE Portland Tool Library, Soltrekker, and Friends of Family Farmers!

New! Community Food Forest

The Portland Fruit Tree Project is creating a demonstration orchard and garden at our new site. This Community Food Forest will incorporate fruit trees and edible perennials along with organic veggies as a demonstration site for home-scale food cultivation, and to produce healthy food for people in need. With support from many local businesses and dedicated volunteers, we are quickly transforming a neglected lot into a valuable resource for the community.
