Join us for the 6th annual Tour De Coops!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday, July 25 - 11am-3pm

Price: $10/booklet. Booklets include addresses & descriptions of each coop and maps with suggested tour routes & safe bike routes!

Booklets are available for sale starting Friday, July 17 and will be on sale the day of the event until 2pm. Booklets can be purchased at the following locations:

  • Urban Farm Store: 1925 SE Morrison St.
  • People's Coop: 3029 SE 21st Ave.
  • Garden Fever!: 3433 NE 24th Ave.
  • Livingscape Nursery: 3926 N Vancouver Ave.
  • Pistils Nursery: 3811 N Mississippi Ave.

Raffle: $5/ticket or 3/$10. Sold separately, and available at all five pre-sale locations starting July 17. You could win one of two Grand Prizes - a coop created by John Wright or John Carr, two of Portland's coop design experts!

Volunteers needed to hang Tour De Coop posters
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We need volunteers to hang posters at each of the areas below. Each volunteer will receive 12 posters and location details.
  • N/St. Johns
  • NE
  • SE
  • NW/SW

The posters are ready to be picked up at the Growing Gardens office in Hollywood anytime.

Volunteer Garden Club Assistant needed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are now taking applications for a Volunteer Garden Club assistant for Summer Garden Camp at Faubion Elementary. Youth Grow is looking for one volunteer to commit to the 3rd-5th grade garden camp that runs from August 3rd-August 7th. This is a one week camp that meets Monday through Friday between 12:30pm-2:00pm.

We're looking for someone with experience working with children aged 6-12, a good sense of humor, self motivated, comfortable with ambiguity, have some organic gardening experience and willing to commit to volunteering for the week. Growing Gardens will provide training in youth development, classroom management and garden activities.

Advanced Urban Chicken Keeping Workshop
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monday, July 13 - 6-8pm (NE)

Designed for chicken owners with some experience; troubleshoot problems with your hens' health and home at an established North Portland coop.

All workshops are a $5-20 sliding scale donation and pre-registration is required. To sign up contact Emily Gowen at emily@growing-gardens.org or 503-284-8420. The location will be given when you sign up. If you do not get a response back it means the workshop is full.

 


Cooking With Summer Vegetables workshop
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday, August 15 - 2-4:30pm (N/NE)

Prepare fresh, delicious & nutritious garden veggie dishes during this hands-on workshop with a local chef.

Wondrous Worms Parent/Child Workshop
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday, July 18th - 10:30am-12pm (NE)

Parents and children will learn about red wiggler worms; the worms famous for transforming food scraps into fertilizer for plants and gardens. Participants will learn what makes these worms so special through fun hands-on activities, stories and more.

Bugs & Insects Parent/Child Workshop

Wednesday, August 5th - 5:30pm-7pm (SE)

Meet common bugs & insects in the garden. Go on a bug hunt and learn how to create a healthy balance of helpful critters in your garden!

Munch & Crunch Parent/Child Workshop
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thursday, August 13th - 6-7:30pm (NE)

Learn how to harvest, store, and care for vegetables as well as how to enjoy them while tasting fresh veggies from the garden. We'll also talk about easy recipes and how to encourage kids to eat fresh veggies.
