Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam operates watershed restoration efforts along Salmon Creek in Clark County, Washington. CPU voluntarily runs the restoration program with the two goals of enhancing water quality for the citizens of Clark County and restoring the salmon population in Salmon Creek. Volunteers are crucial to the success of our restoration efforts. This event will involve maintenance (mowing, watering, etc.) at one of our sites. Coffee, snacks, boots and gloves are provided. Volunteers are trained to identify problems with tree care and maintenance. Each volunteer is assigned a neighborhood route where trees have been planted during the past year. Each tree's health is inspected: Is it receiving enough water? Has its bark been scarred by lawnmowers or car doors? Is the ground around it properly weeded and mulched? Is the tree healthy and free of diseases and pests? Volunteers leave door-hangers for homeowners, congratulating them for taking good care of their new trees and identifying ways they can help to improve their trees' health. ( categories:

The workshop is part of Tree Talk, an exciting new series of free educational workshops all about trees. Vancouver is blessed with many beautiful trees. Tree Talk workshops are a great way for residents to learn why trees are important, how to properly plant and care for trees, and how to landscape with native plants. This first workshop will focus on how to properly plant a tree so that it can grow to be healthy and mature. Urban Forestry staff will give demonstrations and then work side-by-side with workshop participants in hands-on practice. Workshop attendees will receive a native plant seedling, product samples and a coupon for discounted trees and shrubs provided by Clark Public Utilities and Yard 'n Garden Land. Participants should bring their own gloves and shovel and dress for the weather and the mud. Pre-registration is preferred. ( categories: )
